Part 3 of "unheard" squatting tips! (Oct-09-05)
The response so far to my 3-part squatting series
has been so good... that we decided to hold you in
suspense for part 3 just a day longer!
Without further ado, here's part 3 of my 'unheard'
squatting tips.
This actually has two parts to it... and is a tip
that I give especially to athletes.
In other words, you're going to like it.
Better yet, this email contains that gift I've
been telling you about (actually, there are two!)
These tips are less to do with form and technique
and a lot more to do with things that assist the
jumper.
The two aspects I discuss relate to two of the
most common questions we get emailed with:
-1-> Do bands and chains increase vert?
-2-> ... and what about weight vests?
The answers (and your 2 gifts!) are all below.
Check 'em out.
- Luke
====================================
DO BANDS AND CHAINS INCREASE VERT?
====================================
Bands and chains, by their very nature, actually
decrease power output the higher the athlete
jumps.
Big claim - but here's why:
The higher the athlete squats using bands and
chains, the greater the resistance. The greatest
load is actually at the *top* of the motion.
This is not the case in a natural jumping motion.
Same goes for the bench press...
In nature, the greatest load bared is at the
*bottom* and/or mid-range of the movement, not
the top.
Training with bands/chains effectively teaches an
athlete to become *slower*, the higher they rise
in the jumping motion!
The problem here is that a vast majority of
athletes need to *increase* speed the higher they
progress through the motion.
This is *exactly* why pool work is so vital in
effectively re-creating the natural jumping
setting (especially when done to a specific
frequency) - all without the bone-crunching
pressure of carrying gravity!
Because of the water, you actually decrease load
bared the higher you jump - and this is ideal for
increasing vertical jump explosion!
This is what I call "Progressive Acceleration" and
it's something I discuss and teach in Volume 1 of
my system.
It's a also a reason why so many of my athletes
are known as 'fast' jumpers.
Clearly then, the problem with bands and chains
is that they encourage progressive *de*celeration,
which means you a likely to:
-1-> Jump slower
-AND-
-2-> Jump lower!
** Who wants to do that?!?! **
The solution:
-- Don't Use Bands And Chains --
==================================
... AND WHAT ABOUT WEIGHT-VESTS?
==================================
OK, here's an interesting one.
Good ol' weight-vests.
Many people ask us about weight-vests and using
them for increasing vertical leap.
The idea is that by increasing the weight you do
your jump training at, you will be 'lighter' when
you play... and therefore jump higher when the
vest is removed during competiton.
Good in theory...
... bad in practice.
Here's why:
It's true that weight-vests do provide added
weight to your training and jumping movements, but
they do so at a cost - actually two costs.
-1-> The first is that the speed at which
you can perform the actual movement
is greatly hindered, so your
neurological system is trained to
react and move slower, which:
--> Decreases Your Vertical <--
This is because the faster you move
through the jumping motion, generally
the higher you'll jump.
Weight-vests prevent this. (Well, to an
extent - I'll explain later how a
little-known "magical formula" is your
only hope of reversing this...)
-2-> The second major disadvantage of
weight-vests is that they are
really, really, really bad news
for your back.
The reason for this lies in how
the weight is distributed through
the spine and how the un-even load
is compensated by much of the upper
spine.
** Here's a wise secret... **
The brain and the spine control
the neurological system... and the
height of your vertical jump is
completely and totaly dependent on
the functioning of your neuro-
logical system.
Therefore, the *last* thing you ever
want to compromise in your quest
for a higher vertical is your brain
and your spine. Weight-vests do
exactly this, so they are bad news!
So, the question becomes: How can you effectively
mimic this situation of training at a heavier
weight - WITHOUT compromising your performance or
your precious back?
The answer is the weight-belt.
The major reason the weight-belt is superior to
the weight-vest is because you carry the load
perfectly at your center of gravity (your hips/
pelvic area).
This means two important thing for vertical-leap
training and your neurological system:
-1-> Your body unconconsciously registers
the added weight, due to the close
proximity of the weight-belt to your
center of gravity and the fact that
outer or upper limbs do not have to
hold the weight.
-2-> You remove the bone-jarring load
from your all-important spine, too.
This is obviosuly great for safety
and longevity.
So, the verdict on weight-vests?
-- Don't Use Weight-Vests --
But... use a weight-belt instead!!

WHERE'S MY GIFT, LUKE?
========================
I'm glad you asked...
Why?
Because it's unbelieveable... incredible even.
I've just told you how great a weight-belt is for
increasing your vertical leap - right?
-------------------------------
Well, here's my first gift...
-------------------------------
For the next 48-HOURS ONLY you've been given a
$US50 certificate to purchase the world's best
weight-belt... complete *with* 30lbs of weights,
too!
A $50 certificate- all yours, f*ree!
OK, you following?
Good...
This is only going to last until 9pm, this
Wednesday October 12 (Los Angeles time)...
------------------------------
And here's my second gift...
------------------------------
And... when you claim your $50 certificate
and your weight-belt within this time-frame, you
will also receive the "magical formula" that
prevents your neurological system being hindered
by the extra weight held on the belt.
And guess what?
--> This "magical formula" alone is worth the
whole price of weight-belt - because it
will increase your vertical just as soon
as you apply it!
Here's why:
Remember how I said when you carry extra weight as
you train, your movements become slower and your
vertical actually *decreases*?
Well - this is a *thing of the past* when you have
the power of this "magical formula" at your
fingertips!
So, here's exactly what you need to do to claim
this $50 account... and the answers to all the
questions you might have:
--------------------
Q - What do I get?
--------------------
A - JumpUSA's Hypergravity weight-belt,
(including 30 lbs of weight!) This
normally sells for $149.95...
BUT... for the next 48 hours, you
get to snatch it for just $99.95!
-NB-: This only applies to the
$149.95 Hypergravity
weight-belt.
And - of course - I'll also reveal
the "magical formula" to you, as
well!
----------------------------------
Q - How long will this last for?
----------------------------------
A - I just got off the phone to JumpUSA
a couple of minutes ago and this can
ONLY last until this Wednesday night,
October 12 (Los Angeles time)...
And they are very strict about this!
--------------------------------
Q - So, how do I claim my $50?
--------------------------------
A - You need to do just 3 easy things:
